Wasted
These images were commissioned by The Science Gallery Dublin as part of their exhibition PLASTIC. We can't live with it. We can't live without it.
Wasted is a series of photographs taken from the inside of an Industrial Composting facility. The centre specialises in turning food waste into high-grade compost, providing society with a practical, environmentally sound way to deal with waste that would otherwise be destined for landfill. Unfortunately, plastic often arrives at this site and has to be separated, it does not break down, contaminates the food waste and is destined for landfill.
By showing the inner workings of this facility in such a dystopian light I hope to draw attention to the scale of waste in society. How solutions to problems are being implemented but our reliance on plastic is having long-lasting consequences.
